School Uniform

“Staff and Pupils alike wear the purple uniform with pride.” OFSTED

Our school has a clear dress code and encourages the wearing of a school uniform. The co-operation of parents in ensuring the maintenance of a full and correct school uniform is requested. The majority of our uniform items do not have logos and can be purchased at a low cost from Supermarkets etc.  We also support our families by having regular uniform sales in school.  Children in receipt of Free School Meals are provided with uniform vouchers to support them in purchasing their child’s uniform.

Please note:

  • We do not permit over embellished hair accessories such as Jo-Jo bows, large headbands or scrunchies or modified headbands such as those with cat ears. A thin simple headband or small clips are acceptable.
  • We do not permit extreme hairstyles or unnatural hair colours.  Coloured hair, shaved tramlines and patterns, mohicans etc. are not permitted. If you are planning on allowing your child to dye their hair or have an extreme haircut, please do this at the start of the summer so it has time to grow out before September.
  • Very short skirts are not practical for school. As a rule of thumb, we suggest that skirts should be closer to the knee than the hip.
  • Children must not wear nail varnish, fake/acrylic nails, make up or fake eyelashes.
  • Long hair should be tied back, particularly during PE lessons.

Thank you for your support in this. We have 'High Standards in Everything We Do' at Thackley and it is important that we look smart and are proud to wear our uniform.

For safety reasons, children with pierced ears may only wear studs which must be removed during PE. If children are unable to remove or replace their studs themselves, they should not be worn to school on PE days.  Children will not be able to do PE while wearing earrings.

Jewellery & Make Up

The wearing of jewellery is discouraged throughout the school. For safety reasons, children with pierced ears may only wear studs, which must be removed during PE. If children are unable to remove or replace their studs themselves, they should not be worn to school on PE days.  If your child is getting their ears pierced, please arrange this for the start of the Summer holidays as they will be unable to do PE if wearing earrings.

Children may wear a small watch but we do not allow Smart watches or any other wearable technology.  This includes Apple watches, fit bits, pedometers etc.

Makeup, fake eyelashes, nail varnish or false nails are not permitted.

Shoes

Black shoes must be worn by all children on normal uniform days.  Trainers are not acceptable.

On PE days when the PE uniform is worn, trainers should be plain black or white.  Football boots/trainers are not acceptable.

In bad weather conditions, children may come to school in boots or wellingtons but must change into black school shoes or pumps on arrival.

In Summer, black or white sandals may be worn.  Coloured, 'Lellikelly' or jelly type sandals are not acceptable.
